New York: concrete jungle where dreams are made of!
We recently ventured to the Big Apple to conduct Autumn/Winter 2017 research and my oh my, do we love this city! There is such a buzz about New York, with something new to discover around every corner. The sheer number of big brand retailers, designer flagships and historically renowned department stores makes NYC one of the best in the world for inspiration shopping.
For all fashion-focused tourists of New York, shopping on Fifth Avenue is a definite must during a visit in the Big Apple. Madison Avenue is also home to some of the most extravagant shops and unique store concepts. I mean where else in the world would you see an oyster bed with giant pearls and clocks on bags?! Both avenues embraces the diversity of New York, and here you will find some of the world’s most upscale boutiques.
NYC Bag Trends
One of the biggest trends we saw during our visit was METAL EYELETS as seen below at Louis Vuitton, Sonya Rykiel and Michael Kors. What we liked most about this look is the innovative way hardware has been incorporated into the main body of the bags to create delicate linear and geometric patterns. In contrast, Sonya Rykiel shows how chunkier, industrial-style eyelets can be used to create a STATEMENT STRAP detail.
On the subject of statement straps, Kate Spade backed this trend with great conviction. At Kate Spade we saw plain and two-tone bags merchandised with an array of CONTRAST STRAP options, including LEOPARD PRINT, MONOCHROME, GLITTER and FUR, offering a great solution for outfit customisation and a cost-effective update for your every day bag.
Refined PATCHWORK paneling combines tonal colours with reptile textures throughout high-end designer ranges. Berry tones looked fresh at Coach whilst Chloe opted for a more Neutral palette, providing a versatile trend seen across this season’s key silhouettes.
On Fifth Avenue, we were wowed by multi coloured EXOTIC SNAKESKINS and STATEMENT LOCKS in LV, Prada and Dior. It would appear this season, hardware is going to be having a hero moment and we’re already excited to see what our sourcing team can develop to reflect these trends.
